The challenge with this painting was to show the inside 

of the flower. To give the impression of the backlighting,
I needed the correct value and color.

Pastel Painting Demo for Common Ground

This is the painting I did for the Lakeland Public TV

 program, Common Ground. I was honored they
asked me to be featured and to be included with
 the other wonderful artists. It was a scary project for 

me to do, but I decided to step out of my comfort zone
and it was a good experience, I'm glad I did it.

The finished painting is on display at

the Blank Canvas Gallery in Park Rapids, MN.

Plein air pastel "Fishhook Paint Out 2""

This is the second painting done on location for
the Blank Canvas Gallery's Plein Air Paint Out.
We chose this spot to set up and after a bit of rain
we had a nice sunny morning to paint. The company
of the other artists was fun and inspiring.This painting
is done on LaCarte pastel paper, which I found out the
hard way not to get wet, when it rained.

Plein air "Fishhook Paint Out 1"

This pastel painting was done on location last summer for
 The Blank Canvas Gallery's first Plein Air Paint Out.
A couple of fellow artists and I went out early morning to
scout an area to paint and found this spot on Fishhook River.

We promptly set up our easels and supplies and got started!

Plein air pastel "September Outing"

This little pastel painting was done on location using a 

LaCarte paper. The cool gray shade of this paper compliments 

the warm sunny colors in this vignette of a woods pond.

September Outing - Pastel 

River Highlights is a new pastel painting.

I started this painting of the Fishhook River on a sunny 

September morning. I wanted to capture the peacefulness 

of the scene by creating dominate cool shadow areas 

against the warm bright backlight. 

Unable to finish it on location, I finished it in

 the studio keeping the feeling I had of that beautiful morning.
